Luther Series 1 Episode 3

This episode started with an odd looking man knocking on a front door. A woman opened the door, Kirsten Ross, and started to talk about her husband and whether this man knew anything about him. The man walked into the house and started to threaten the woman. He said that she can either get her and her child killed or she can keep her child safe and be kidnapped. She chose the kidnapping option obviously. We then saw the police office where John Luther and his other police friends work and solve investigations. We were then shown images from the house after Kirsten had been taken. There was writing covering ALL the walls, appearing to be blood. Rose Teller then explains how this exact incident happen 10 years ago to a young girl names Grace Allen but the murderer, Lucien Burgess, had no evidence on him so couldn't be convicted. He is a psychopath who drains people of their blood and then dumps their body somewhere to be found years after the abduction. Luther pieces the puzzle together and works out that Kirsten must be in a boat as the angle of daylight that was visible on a picture that Lucien took of her in the box where he drained her. Luther is an anti-hero here as he bends with the law slightly in order to catch his killer. As him and his assistant go down to the boat and find Kirsten dead, they have no evidence to put it on Lucien so they don't want the same thing to happen again. They pretended that they were never at the crime scene and look into framing Lucien in the act. They succeed and charge him. Meanwhile, Mark North - Zoe's boyfriend gets beaten up by a group of teenage girls in a gang. He claims that one of them said "Luther says hello" so immediately puts the blame onto Luther. Luther knows nothing of the matter but Mark still goes through with the complaint and Luther is being stopped with getting on with the case that at that time was not resolved. We then find out that it was in fact Alice who set the gang girls on Mark to try and help Luther get back together with Zoe, Alice confesses up to Mark so that he withdraws his complaint. Zoe turns up at Luther's place and they share a moment and she then cheats on Mark with Luther. Basic TV Crime Drama conventions used in this Episode:
- Montages
- Crime Scene
- Evidence
- We were, at some points, able to know more than a policeman did.
